WatchTogether

Collaborative Watch-Party Platform

WatchTogether is engineered to eliminate the friction of coordinating remote viewing sessions. Built around sub-second room synchronization, it enables friends to stream and experience multimedia in lockstep without audio/video drift.

The Problem

Watching streaming video or listening to audio with remote friends usually requires tedious manual countdowns, resulting in disjointed playback, out-of-sync audio, and ruined social timing.

The Solution

WatchTogether creates dedicated synchronized playback virtual rooms where playhead events are broadcast in real time across all connected participants, maintaining synchronized frames without high network overhead.

Technical Challenges & Trade-offs

Engineering hurdles encountered during state reconciliation and latency optimization.

Challenge 01

Mitigating network latency jitter across participants with varied connection speeds

Challenge 02

Handling edge-case race conditions when multiple participants seek or buffer simultaneously

Challenge 03

Building a clean, non-intrusive UI that keeps focus on the shared media
